New winner hailed in Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup Round 3

JULY 7, 2018

Clark, Pampanga – July 7-8, 2018- It was a wet track for all Honda Pilipinas Dream Cup participants during the Practice and Qualifying rounds last July 7, 2018, at Clark International Spweedway (CIS,) but that did not stop the riders from going full throttle with their CBR150R bikes as they are securing their positions for race 1 and 2. As a result, Sean Barcial from Bulacan secured the P1 position followed by Jakob Sablaya of Antipolo, Rizal for P2 and Andrei Reyes from Cainta, Rizal for P3.

Race 1, 9:40 a.m.

At the start of the race, riders took in the full stretch and wider track of CIS, specially the first-timers on the track. Rider #6 Sean Barcial tried to break away from the group versus the rider currently leading in points #7 Jakob Sablaya who was taking the track for the first time. Riders #1 Kervie Bergania and rider #8 Andrei Reyes composed of the 1st pack. On the 2nd pack was rider #10 Erika Ondillo, #4 Sean Andrej Ondillo and #12 Jasper Cruz who had a 6.3 second gap from the 1st pack. With a total of 5 laps equivalent to 21 km., Sean Barcial managed to maintain his lead and secured 1st Place, while Jakob was able to secure a striking 2nd place competing with the pack despite his first time at the track. Finally Kervie Bergania was able to secure 3rd place.

Race 2, 2:00 p.m.

The track temperature rose with the heat of the 2nd race. It was another break away of Rider #6 Sean Barcial from the lead pack as he took on the full course with confidence, while rider #7 Jakob Sablaya, rider #1 Kervie Bergania and rider #8 Andrei Reyes tried to outrun each other. On the 2nd pack rider #10 Erika Ondillo, #4 Sean Andrej Ondillo and #12 Jasper Cruz was having their own battle for position. Taking on the full 6 laps of CIS was a long battle for these riders, and at the end it was a clear win for Sean Barcial taking on the 1st Place. On the other hand Jakob Sablaya managed to get 2nd place after battling with Kervie Bergania from behind. Bergania eventually placed 3rd.

Sean Barcial

“I am happy with my performance this weekend, when we started the practice I felt great and was already on the lead, and then I was aggressive enough on the first 4 laps of race 1 and 2 and trying my best to break away from the group to gain more distance. I was trying to calm myself and tried to make no mistakes and managed to race and finish strong. I feel I had the advantage since I am familiar with the track and my experience in taking the full cours of CIS. I would like to thank all the sponsors, Honda Philippines, and specially my brother James in giving me tips and pointers on how to take the proper shifting and what to do inside the track.”

Jakob Sablaya:

“As [my] first time to run at CIS, Friday, I studied my racing line practice 1, I became more familiar, I tried to study the gearing. Even though, I placed 2nd, I still secured important points and still managed to take the overall points. I will study more [of] my racing line and review my performance. I will take this as a lesson and fight for the 1st place at round 4. I would like to thank God that [for] he always guides me, and especially to my Father and Mother, who supports me in my dream as a racer.”

Kervie Bergania:

”My performance improved a lot because of practice and pointers I got in round 3. I was gradually picking up speed and getting the racing line. However, I am still not satisfied with my result but I will do my best on the 4th round. This race needs more endurance since we are going full course, compared last year we only did the west course. Anything can happen during the race that is why on the next round I will improve my time. I would like to thank my family for supporting me na nagpalakas ng loob ko na galingan ko pa sa track. I would like to thank Honda Philippines for this big improvement in my riding skill”.
