ABOUT HSDC

"Building a Community of Safe Road Users"

Honda Safety Driving Center operates the FIRST world class training facility in the Philippines that effectively combines highly-organized instructions for both automobile and motorcycle. Its objective is to pursue manufacturers’ obligation of promoting road safety through implementation of road safety education programs for all. It is created to educate Filipino drivers and riders on road discipline, proper safety mindset and superior driving skills. This objective intends to help reduce the number of traffic accidents and improve traffic situation in the Philippines.

PHILIPPINE ROAD SAFETY CONDITION

The rate of traffic accidents in the Philippines increases steadily at 20% per annum. This road safety scenario may be disturbing for the country where 80% of passenger mobility and 60% of freight traffic are dependent on land transportation.

Based on studies, 90% of traffic accidents are due to human errors that may sum up into 2 major causes: (1) lack of proper safety attitude; and (2) inadequate skills to operate motor vehicles. To these – PROPER EDUCATION IS THE KEY.

Urged by a strong sense of obligation deeply rooted from the company’s safety philosophy of “delivering safety in every vehicle”, Honda in the Philippines institutionalized road safety initiatives by establishing HONDA SAFETY DRIVING CENTER (HSDC).

In pursuit of vehicle manufacturer’s obligation in effectively promoting road safety, the Honda Safety Driving Center aims to contribute to the Philippine Society by creating a new generation of responsible road users through its offering of progressive road safety education programs to ALL.

Training Facility

Honda Safety Driving Center houses ten (10) training rooms with varying seating capacity from 10 participants to a high of 120 students. It also maintains a library that will eventually become a vast data resource center on everything about safety.

Integrated in the Center’s 2.4 hectare facility is a world-class training circuit that simulates traffic network and actual road conditions. This way, proper road interaction will be highly understood and appreciated by the learners while their confidence is being developed.

Motorcycle Courses include slalom, S-course, figure 8, narrow plank and bumpy path. These are all intended to develop essential skills in balancing, turning, braking and throttle control. Moreover, riding exercises in these are performed in various set-up and levels of difficulty to equip riders with safety techniques that are very useful in today’s traffic conditions.

The Automobile training circuit is made-up of s-course, crank, slopes, 3-point turn and parking exercises. Comprehensive training in these courses will make learners more analytical and precise with their driving maneuvers.

The track also incorporates actual vehicular traffic channels like controlled intersection, merging traffic, round-about and slopes. In these courses, learners will be familiarized with the right-of-way rule without risking self and the motoring public. These are also vital in making learners understand the varying characteristics of other road users. In doing so, courtesy and respect becomes inherent to the new generation of responsible drivers.

Mindful of the existing weather and road conditions in the Philippines, HSDC introduces wet surface braking and dirt courses with the aim of teaching drivers how to properly manage vehicles in various slippery and debris-filled road conditions. THESE TRACKS ARE FIRST IN ASIA OUTSIDE JAPAN.

In pursuit of vehicle manufacturer’s obligation in effectively promoting road safety, the Honda Safety Driving Center aims to contribute to the Philippine Society by creating a new generation of responsible road users through its offering of progressive road safety education programs to ALL.
Honda Safety Driving Center upholds the high level of competence and professionalism expected of a Honda instructor anywhere around the world.
HSDC instructors have undergone a one-month extensive skill-up training and attitude building under the supervision of super instructors from Rainbow Motor School (Japan) and Bukit Batok Driving Center of Singapore. The Center’s chief instructors also attended a 2-month trainors’ training course in Bukit Batok Driving Center, here competencies in instructor and module development were enhanced.
For 5 years now, HSDC has been sending instructors to the Safety-Japan Instructors Competition in Suzuka, Japan. This is an annual event organized by the Driving Safety Promotion Center of Honda Motor where Honda instructors all over the world compete, share experiences and gain insights about new training technologies.
Honda Safety Driving Center’s training vehicles (70 units of motorcycles & 8 units of automobiles) are well-maintained. The Center has its own workshop for preventive maintenance activities and general repairs of motorcycles and automobiles. With the highest level of safety in mind, these training vehicles are specially-modified for training purposes. Automobiles are equipped with auxiliary brakes and auto shut-off features as countermeasures during moments of panic. Motorcycles, on the other hand, are installed with crash guards to prevent injuries in the event of a slippage or fall.
“Building a Community of Safe Road Users” is HSDC’s slogan. HSDC offers progressive education for all road users – children and adults – as part of effort to help in the accident prevention and traffic improvement campaign.
