Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain – May 24, 2026: Filipino rider Alfonsi Daquigan opened his 2026 Moto4 European Cup campaign with a determined and competitive showing during Round 1, held last May 24, 2026, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Representing the Philippines on the international stage under the Honda development pathway, Daquigan demonstrated strong pace across all sessions and valuable race experience in one of Europe’s most competitive junior championships.
Daquigan immediately established competitive form in Free Practice 1 (FP1), topping the session with a standout fastest lap of 1:50.694, signaling his confidence and adaptation to the Barcelona circuit. His performance placed him at the center of attention early in the weekend, highlighting both speed and potential against a deep international field.
In Free Practice 2 (FP2), he continued to remain within the leading group, securing P3 with a best lap time of 1:51.888. While slightly slower than FP1 due to changing track conditions and setup refinement, the result confirmed his consistent competitiveness and strong race pace foundation

Heading into Qualifying 2 (Q2), Daquigan maintained his position among the frontrunners, ultimately securing P4 on the grid with a best lap of 1:51.192. His qualifying performance reflected solid one-lap speed and the ability to deliver under pressure in a tightly contested field where tenths of a second separated multiple riders.
Starting from the second row gave him a strong opportunity to challenge for a top result in the race.

In the main race, Daquigan faced a demanding contest marked by close battles, intense pack racing, and evolving track conditions. Despite a challenging outing, he completed the race in P14, recording his fastest lap of 1:51.424.
Although the result did not reflect his earlier weekend pace, the race provided critical experience in race management, tire preservation, and fighting within a dense midfield group—an essential part of development in the Moto4 European Cup.

Round 1 served as a valuable learning weekend for Daquigan, combining moments of front-running speed with real-world race challenges. His performance across practice and qualifying sessions confirmed his raw pace, while the race highlighted areas for further development as he continues adapting to the European racing environment.

With Round 1 completed, Daquigan and his team will focus on data analysis, setup refinement, and race execution improvements as the season progresses. The experience gained in Barcelona sets a strong foundation for upcoming rounds, where the goal will be to convert qualifying pace and practice speed into stronger race results.
The next challenge awaits at Round 2, where Daquigan aims to build momentum and continue representing the Philippines with determination in the Moto4 European Cup.
