Honda One Make Race XRM Supermoto Challenge (The Fort, Taguig)

May 10, 2007
by John Cristobal, editor-in-chief

One historian hinted that the first motorcycle race came about when two motorcyclists found each other unexpectedly on the road.  It is certainly not the first recorded official race, but the racers must have been very proud after checking their machines and inquisitively wonder which was faster. If one must consider the earliest low tech machines, the suspension, and the state of affairs of the roads at the time, the experience must have been so thrilling!

This is exactly what motorbike racers experienced when they participated in the "Honda One Make Race XRM Supermoto Challenge ", the twelfth stop of Honda’s motorcycle race series.  Held February 24, 2007 in The Fort, Taguig City, it attracted a surprising national record of 200 participating motorcycle race enthusiasts in seven categories, including 14 of our very own HPI Associates, as they all lined up for the challenge under the blazing Manila sun!

Bebet Dela Cruz emerged as the champ in both the Expert Stock and Expert Modified Categories winning a trophy and P10, 000 cash for each category.  Perennial racing contender Dustin Esguerra finished off first in the Novice Stock Category.   Arnel Lancit is the highest-finishing racer in the Novice Modified Category and Bong Tulawi wrapped up in first place in the Executive Category.  Napoleon Medina and Sharmaine Sabalboro won the Media and Ladies Category respectively.  HPI Associate Allan Alam of Logistics Department clinches the title in the HPI Associate Race Category.
