    wow! 3 days.
Would you mind posting the route you took? Been wanting to do that, but am not familiar with the northern hemisphere. Average speed during the trip? I want to plan a trip with 80kph AVERAGE speed (considering congestion, stops, etc)
Also, fuel consumption for the entire trip, lodging & cost (and how you would rate it).

    Thanks mucho

Sure no prob, I'll have the map digitized and uploaded later to give you a clearer picture, full details of the trip may be too long to post but to sumarize it I basically rode alone last May 25-27, 2007 via the Bulacan route on the first day ending in Ifugao where I stayed at Banaue Hotel enjoying the scenic view of the Rice Terraces, on the second day I went from Banaue to Santiago City taking the road on the left leading to Sta. Maria Isabla, when I got there the only bridge available to cross the cagayan river was out so I had to rent a boat to ferry me and Rosie across the river. Had lunch at Tuguegarao City and went from there to Pagudpud via the Aparri road. In Pagudpud I stayed at Villa del Mar Resort for the night. On the third day I went from Pagudpud back to Manila via Mc Arthur Highway

My average speed was only 60kph although there were times I had to go on extended runs of 90-100kph just to make up the time lost from the kodakans along the way :) the road all througout is fairly good and the entire trip was great.

I havent computed the total mileage yet but i do have all the documentation, i'll post it later but roughly the whole trip was around 10-12 liters only, and the entire trip including food, lodging, fuel, etc. was less than P3k.

Will post full detail and photos soon :)

Bwahhahahaha... excited ako. Sige sir. Antayin ko yan. 10-12li is roughly 504km for me. Since you're riding a 100cc, i guess it would have been farther. Been wanting to go solo, with a tent and ample supplies, pero mukhang di ako papayagan ng aking "bantay." Kung pwede lang sana sa express way dumaan, i'd probably be able to sneak out.
60kph, average speed sounds perfect and realistic for me to enjoy the ride.
My current gear ratio is 34/15 which allows me to go faster. Pero since mukhang puro paahon yan, i think i'll go back to stock combination.

    Hi All,

    gorio_e

Just found this site today and hopefully some one here can help. Am planning to visit P.I. in the future and would like to buy a Honda CRF 450X to get around the country. Would you know which Honda dealer I can go to. I'll be staying around the Pangasinan area so hopefully I'll be able to ride along in one of your road trips someday. Been using Google Earth to plan out some rides but it would be nice to ride with people that knows the area well. Take care.

    Hey Paul,
I'm not certain as to where you can find a brand new bike with that displacement (or model for that matter). You can however, find the more common CBR series which most likely will be second hand.
Unfortunately, the forum you have joined are limited to a displacement of 200cc, and most likely will be unable to keep up with you.
1.) Country rules on bikes on freeways have always been a debate. I suggest you check if 400cc bikes (or higher displacement bikes) are permissible on the expressways.
2.) You will want to join a bikers club. I am uncertain of clubs in Pangasinan. there is however maddog in Makati, which usually run on harleys and ducatis.
3.) You can might want to check www.motorcyclephilippines.com for more organizations of your displacement preference.
4.) There are more underbone organizations who travel more frequently. You might want to consider a more modest option. BTW, underbones are banned (for now) on freeways. You'll be taking sideroads. Who knows, you might enjoy the view more :)
5.) Traffic conditions may limit your speed to about a burst of 140kph. That's not exactly my definition of fun on a 450cc.
6.) Bring slime. I haven't found that here, and it'll come in handy if you want to go on roadtrips.
7.) Consider taking your gear along. Overalls, pants, and a good pair of boots aren't easy to find in pangasinan. Jackets and gloves can be found in Manila. You might want to consider bringing mesh instead of leather.
    8.) Here's a link for a seller of a honda CB1 400cc
    http://www.vwcp.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3508
I know this is not your preference, but it's cheap at 91K
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Baliwski,

Thank for the info and I want you to know that I really appreciate it. I did a little bit more reading today and did come across on the subject of the motorcycle ban on Philippine highways.

It appears they don't want anything under 400cc but then I might not be reading it correctly. To think about it; I was there last May and did note of the absence of any motorcyclist on the National Highway and had the deplorable experience of being stop in a car twice by the authority for bogus infractions.

Anyways, I remember we where around Dau when we saw the Maddog's. That's when the idea of getting a bike to get around the country came to me. I guess am going to be needing a GPS and some good maps to do the side roads and maybe see some of the hidden beauties of the unbeaten path.

The reason for me preferring the CRF450 is that I intend to do some exploring up in the mountains and some rural areas eastward where road conditions might be challenging. I haven't rode in over fifthteen years so wish me lots of luck ;) The higher displacement is not for speed but for the probability of me getting myself un-stuck in some unforgiving place. Trouble has a habit of following me or maybe it's because am it. Ha ha.

Would you recommend riding solo or would that be unwise overthere. Am asking this not for my safety but for the foolish thug/s that might be tempted to bushwhaked me :(?

    Later,
    Paul

P.S. By the way, what is a slime?

    hello peter,
I had a very lengthy response earlier, only to find that I couldn't post it.
Needless to say, that trying to recall and recompose everything could be utterly frustrating.
So... I'll try to give you a summary.
1.) GPS - Good to have but wont need it. I don't see reason why you should invest in one, unless you have one you can bring along. Personally this would be more of a liability if you want to go on rough terrain.
Slime - Something you can put on your tires to prevent/delay flats. Refer to www. slime.com
2.) Solo flight - Not a good idea. You might find yourself in a situation requiring help.
3.) Eduro type bikes on expressways - not a good idea. Tires do not offer good traction. Bike geometry too high for high speed. Expressways not an option for you. Use side roads instead.
4.) Consider using Honda XR 200cc. - That should be sufficient. The bike is easily available. Less consumption considering you want to go trekking. 450cc is good, however, it would be hard to find, and fuel consumption may be an issue for long drives on godforsaken places.
5.) Find a fellow motocrosser as your wingman. You will want someone with experience on rough roads if you want to trek.
6.) Bring a mobile phone with a good telco carrier for the location you want to go to. Have a lighter socket installed on your bike and bring a car phone charger.
    Hope this helps.
